Bottom line: choose a helmet labeled for the activity and applicable standard, then fit it to the rider now. ScooterScouter is not naming a best helmet without a current candidate review and fit evaluation.
Check the label and intended activity
For the U.S. market, CPSC's bicycle-helmet rule is in 16 CFR Part 1203. Read the helmet label and manufacturer instructions; a visual resemblance or seller category does not establish compliance or suitability for every powered-board activity.
Fit is individual
The helmet should be level, comfortable, and snug, with straps adjusted according to its instructions. Replace a helmet when the manufacturer directs, after a damaging impact, or if it no longer fits. Check the exact product for recalls.
A helmet does not remove the other risks
Use the exact hoverboard manual, current recall screen, legal practice area, supervision appropriate to the rider, and the pre-ride checklist. Protective gear cannot guarantee that a rider will avoid injury.
