Reviewed August 9, 2026. ScooterScouter separates verified facts, editorial assessment, and hands-on evidence so a reader can see what we know—and what we have not tested.
Our three evidence labels
Hands-on tested
We controlled or directly observed the named unit and publish the tester, dates, acquisition or loan relationship, model/firmware, conditions, protocol, measurements, original evidence, and limitations. A product cannot receive a numerical score without this packet.
Research-based assessment
We have not hands-on tested the product. Specifications are attributed to the exact official manufacturer page/manual and kept separate from our interpretation. We also check responsible recall, law, and certification sources.
Legacy archive
The page preserves historical ScooterScouter coverage but may discuss discontinued products, old prices, or outdated links. An archive does not carry a current score, pick badge, availability claim, or unqualified recommendation.
Source and fact standard
For laws, recalls, certification, and safety, we prefer the responsible government agency or standards/certification body. For model facts, we cite the exact-market manufacturer manual or product page. Retailer listings may show current availability, but they are not our primary specification source.
Manufacturer range, speed, runtime, incline, water-resistance, and load figures are labeled as manufacturer claims until we repeat a documented test. “Up to” is not a real-world promise.
Hands-on test gate and scoring
Our planned weighted score covers braking/control (20%), rider fit/usability (15%), battery/range/charging (15%), ride quality (10%), build/durability (10%), portability (10%), serviceability (10%), and value (10%). The page must show raw measurements beside the score.
Safety veto: an unresolved recall, failed critical control, suspect certification, charger/battery mismatch, or unavailable remedy blocks a recommendation regardless of the calculated score.
Commercial relationships
Paid and affiliate links are disclosed near the recommendation and marked for search engines. A commission, supplied unit, loan, sponsorship, travel, or early access cannot buy coverage, a score, a rank, or softer safety language. We do not purchase test products through our own affiliate links.
Corrections and updates
Current picks receive a monthly availability and recall check and a full review at least every 90 days. Safety pages and law pages carry a visible review date. When a material error changes a verdict or safety instruction, we correct the page and add a visible note explaining what changed.
Why this standard exists
Google's review guidance rewards original analysis and clear evidence of experience, while the FTC prohibits deceptive review and endorsement practices. More importantly, a rider should not have to guess whether a recommendation came from a real test, a manufacturer claim, or a commission opportunity.
